About Holy Cross Higher Secondary School
Established with a vision to provide quality education rooted in discipline and integrity, Holy Cross Higher Secondary School has been shaping young minds in Dimapur, Nagaland for over two decades.
Our History
The Catholic Church began its mission in Nagaland in 1948, initially serving at the Naga Hospital in Kohima. Recognizing the importance of education, Catholic missionaries gradually expanded their efforts in the field of schooling.
Holy Cross School, Dimapur, was founded on 16th April 1966 through the vision and efforts of Fr. Joseph J. Felix, SDB. The school began in a humble thatched shed with just 12 students under the leadership of Mr. George B. Felix as Headmaster. Despite its modest start, the school quickly gained popularity, and student enrollment grew rapidly.
In 1969, under the guidance of Rev. Fr. P.C. Mani, the school was shifted to its present campus. The land was generously supported by Most Rev. Hubert D'Rosario, the then Bishop of Dibrugarh. Over the years, dedicated Principals, Headmistresses, Fathers, and Sisters contributed immensely to developing the infrastructure, expanding classrooms, playgrounds, and facilities, and strengthening academic standards.
The school achieved a significant milestone in 1976 when its first batch appeared for the HSLC examination with 100% results. Due to the steady growth in student strength, additional buildings were constructed, and a shift system was introduced for some time to accommodate the increasing enrollment.
In 2009, the school was upgraded to a Higher Secondary School by the Nagaland Board of School Education, offering Science and Commerce streams. Today, Holy Cross Higher Secondary School serves more than 3,000 students with a strong team of teaching and non-teaching staff. It continues to uphold academic excellence, producing outstanding board results and numerous state rank holders.
Co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including sports, cultural programs, Scouts and Guides, and the School Band, form an integral part of school life. The institution also extends support to economically disadvantaged students as part of its social commitment.
From a tiny seed planted in 1966, Holy Cross Higher Secondary School has grown into one of Nagaland’s leading educational institutions, living its motto: “Per Crucem Ad Lucem” — Through the Cross to the light.”
